Quantitative Approaches to Study Retinal Neurogenesis

چکیده

The study of the development vertebrate retina can be addressed from several perspectives: a purely qualitative to more quantitative approach that takes into account its spatio-temporal features, three-dimensional structure and also regulation properties at systems level. Here, we review ongoing transition toward full four-dimensional characterization developing retina, focusing on challenges experimental, image acquisition, processing quantification. Using zebrafish illustrate how data extracted these type highly dense, tissues depend strongly quality, algorithms used segment quantify. Therefore, propose scientific community focuses developmental could benefit detailed disclosure tools pipelines process analyze images biological samples.

Retinal neurogenesis.

A unique feature of humans is the complexity of our central nervous system. A fully functional brain requires that billions of neurons make specific contacts in a highly coordinated way, an issue that is still not well understood. The neural retina constitutes an excellent system with which to analyze key aspects of neurogenesis and circuit formation in the central nervous system. Here, we prov...

Clinical Approaches of Retinal Diseases in Pregnancy

Pregnancy leads to significant changes in the body, which potentially affect the retina. Pregnancy can induce disease such as that seen in hypertensive retinopathy and choroidopathy. It can cause exudative retinal detachments in the HELLP syndrome (hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, and low platelets), disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), and thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP), ...

Approaches to manipulating microRNAs in neurogenesis

Neurogenesis in the nervous system is regulated by both protein coding genes and non-coding RNA molecules. microRNAs (miRNAs) are endogenous small non-coding RNAs and usually negatively regulate gene expression by binding to the 3' untranslated region (3'UTR) of target messenger RNAs (mRNAs). miRNAs have been shown to play an essential role in neurogenesis, regulating neuronal proliferation, di...

Quantitative Approaches to Metonymy

Introduction Recent years have witnessed an upsurge of interest in metonymy. From cognitive to computational linguistics, researchers have finally realized that metonymy is ubiquitous in everyday language and that it constitutes an important focus of research. In cognitive linguistics, this has given rise to detailed studies of metonymy as a cognitive phenomenon (Kövecses and Radden, 1998; Peir...

Optogenetic approaches to retinal prosthesis

The concept of visual restoration via retinal prosthesis arguably started in 1992 with the discovery that some of the retinal cells were still intact in those with the retinitis pigmentosa disease. Two decades later, the first commercially available devices have the capability to allow users to identify basic shapes. Such devices are still very far from returning vision beyond the legal blindne...
